I find myself questioning that with my wife now. The highlight of my convention experience has been Ron Paul's Rally for the Republic. And it's got me thinking: I don't really like either side. I find, I may be willing to vote symbol (Black President) if it has the potential to cure the political apathy of the Black Community. But, absent that...what's the point?
So, I'm thinking of changing the title - I don't know if I want to be considered an "Obamican." I'm thinking more..."Libertarian at the RNC." I think that's a better description of where I stand.

What's Going On?
Day One-September 1st
Because we are black, we have been interviewed by every conservative and liberal media outlet wanting to know our opinion as of course we represent our entire race. On day one, Town Hall, a conservative publication, cornered me as my children and I were exiting the Xcel Center. I thought to myself, he is going to ask be about Sarah Palin-I am black and a woman. He thinks he can get the black female vote with just one endorsement from me! I agreed. And he asked, How do you feel about Sarah Palin as a nominee? I told him that I feel insulted that she is being peddled as the woman's choice. She is being used and I don't think I should vote for here because she is a woman. I want to know more about her. He then proceeded to ask my children who they like better McCain or Obama. My children replied, Obama! I laughed. Needless to say, our interview was never aired on their website.
Day Two-September 2nd
While here, I attended the Campaign for Liberty (C4L). Founded on letting the Constitution of the United States being the guide of our government, the C4L is trying to empower the people to take back the government to restore orignal intentions of being small and less intrusive. In addition, we are going down the road of one world government; our government is doing exactly what in never intended to do-destroy humans rights to create peace and creating dependent citizens who are unable to pull themselves by their boot straps to make a difference in their own communities. I imagined all my ancestors and how they pulled it together; most were republicans. I think they would be ashamed of the GOP now and how their own people have given up on being American. They fought to be American-to be themselves as God made them contributing to our country only to find that because they were different this equated to inferiority which meant they were un-American. We continue to fight white supremacy and priviledge.
Day 3-September 3rd
Our family attended CivicFest at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The CivicFest was a non-partisan event to celebrate political history and democracy; it was held in conjunction with the Republican National Convention. We had a great time. There was a miniature replica of the White House, traveling Lincoln Museum, lecture on the eagle (my children took a picture with a eagle-pretty cool!), www.one.org (check this out!), vendors, history of the presidents before Washington, political propaganda, and much more!
To top off the day, we attended the RNC to hear Sarah Palin. Leading up to her performance. There were a role out of speakers:

To top off the day, we attended the RNC to hear Sarah Palin. Leading up to her performance. There were a role out of speakers:
- Michael Steele, former Lt. Governor of MD and Senate candidate, gave the black experience speech. He provided the black seal of approval for McCain.
- Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachussettes and robot, explained liberal platforms but seemed more like Republican actions (bigger government, more taxes, etc.). Didn't make a whole lot of sense.
- Governor of Hawaii-I can remember her name she was the most boring (HI has to be more exciting.). She gave the woman's seal of approval for Sarah.
- Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas-I like him the best not because he is southern and I typically have an affinity for a slow drawl but he was the only one to talk about the significance of Obama in history and the impact of Obama in black America. I appreciated this. He also provided wonderful stories and was the most gentle in pulling out emotions. I would say based on speaking ability he is the Obama of the Republican Party.
- Guiliani-I walked out and began talking to may girlfriend, Lucretia, on the phone. He was the most cheered with the least votes.
- Sarah Palin-what can I say she throws punches better than any man. I hope she can take a few; and, I hope the American public is ready for punches given by Biden.
Why Am I Here?
I agreed to come here in support of my husband, Jabriel. A card carrying Republican, he is here as a delegate along with his father, representing the Virgin Islands. I was actually excited to come to this event to be a part of greater civic process. Most importantly, I wanted my children to be exposed to something greater than themselves-showing them the importance of being part of the political process. I want them to know that they are American no matter what is transmitted through media to try to make them less; they have the right to be part of the process.
